How is the UL 2218 test performed?

Impact simulation: The test uses steel balls of various sizes to simulate hail impact. The balls are dropped freely from specific heights onto the tested material. Each resistance class (1, 2, 3, or 4) corresponds to a particular ball diameter and drop height:
Class 1: 1.25-inch steel balls (about 3.2 cm) dropped from 12 feet (about 3.7 m).
Class 2: 1.5-inch steel balls (about 3.8 cm) dropped from 14 feet (about 4.3 m).
Class 3: 1.75-inch steel balls (about 4.4 cm) dropped from 17 feet (about 5.2 m).
Class 4: 2-inch steel balls (about 5 cm) dropped from 20 feet (about 6.1 m).
